How traders in Delhi's Connaught Place are gearing up to tackle great festive rush

Event Description

Amid increasing Covid-19 cases and heavy footfall in markets due to festive season, Connaught Place traders are taking several measures to ensure safety of their staff as well as customers.

On Monday, New Delhi Traders' Association (NDTA) organised a free corona testing camp in the middle circle in association with the DM (New Delhi).

"Shopkeepers and their workers attend to so many visitors on a daily basis. To check the infection from spreading, we organised this camp with the help of the district administration. Many people came forward to get themselves tested on Monday. The camp will be held from 10.30 am to 5 pm on Tuesday," said Amit Gupta, executive committee member, NDTA.

On Monday, 196 people, including visitors, attended the camp of which 16 tested positive.

The association claims to have intensified the sanitisation drive. "We've been disinfecting the market twice a day for the past four months, but it has now been intensified keeping in mind the increasing footfall because of Diwali," said Gupta.

"Maintaining social distancing, however, may be difficult as illegal hawkers have been a major issue in the area," said Vikram Badhwar, general secretary of NDTA.
